What does ChatGPT say about your business?

You've probably already tried it: opened ChatGPT, asked about your own company, and read the answer with your heart in your throat. Here's the uncomfortable truth — whatever it said tells you almost nothing.

Why asking once is meaningless

Assistants generate every answer fresh. Ask the same question five times and you'll get five differently-worded answers — sometimes with different brands in them. Ask it about "your company" while logged in, in a conversation where you already mentioned your business, and the model politely plays along in ways it never would for a real customer. And your customers don't ask about you — they ask about their problem: "what's a good accounting tool for a food truck?", "best dentist software for a small practice?". Whether you appear in those answers is what decides whether AI sends you customers.

The four things worth actually measuring

1. Mentions. Across the realistic questions your customers ask — not your brand name, the questions — how often do you appear at all? For most small and mid-size brands the honest answer is close to zero, which is exactly why it's worth knowing.

2. Who appears instead. Every answer that skips you names someone else. Those are your competitors in the AI channel — often not the same rivals you watch everywhere else.

3. Sentiment. When you do appear, are you the recommendation or the cautionary tale? Assistants editorialize freely.

4. Claims. Models state prices, features, and policies about businesses with total confidence and mixed accuracy. If Gemini tells people you charge double your real price, you want to be the first to know — not the last.

How to get a real reading

The method that works is the one we use for the public helloranked index: sample many realistic customer questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, extract every brand mention with its sentiment and claims, and treat the result as a statistic rather than an anecdote. One answer is noise; sixty answers are a measurement.

You can run exactly that for your own business in about half an hour: our scanner discovers the questions your customers ask (from real search demand), puts them to all four assistants, and shows you the full picture — mentions, sentiment, claims, and who's winning the questions you're not. The baseline is free, before any payment.
